Waitangi In The Bay Of Islands, New Zealand

Waitangi, New Zealand is a small town that is well known for its celebration, Waitangi Day. It is celebrated by all of the people in the land and was formed because of the treaty that was signed on February 6, 1840. If you happen to pay a visit to this beautiful part of the country, be sure to bring a camera with you. During Waitangi Day, you can visit the historical site where the treaty was signed, at the Waitangi National Trust estate.

It s a very exciting place to visit. The Nga Puawai o Waitangi Cultural Performance takes place mid October until the April 30th. That's a huge celebration no visitor wants to miss. The Maori resident cultural group gives a 30 minute performance, showing the audience of its contemporary and traditional songs and dances while sharing a story. There is a small fee to be entertained, but it is very affordable and very worth it. The performances include young kapa haka performers from through out the land.


There are also regular guided tours, called the Ultimate Waitangi Experience. There are different packages available for families and individuals. The tour is ran by local Maori guides and is an hour long. The journey takes you to special and spiritual places, so make sure to try to capture them on camera!



You can also take a snapshot of the Cultural North Sound and Light Show. It takes place in a historical and spiritual place underneath the stars. It sometimes takes place in the carved Maori meeting house as well. There you will witness a musical performance that takes you back into the past of the country as well as its dreams of the future.

Waitangi also offers beautifully landscaped grasses and gardens with a romantic feel. Many come here to get engages, celebrate their anniversary or even to get married! It's that beautiful and spiritual. When you get here, you will fall in love with the land yourself.

With the great sites, there is also great food. With the background of the Bay of Islands while you are eating will make you never want to leave. No matter where you are, you will be experiencing beautiful sites and sounds. You can enjoy great food at places like the Treaty Grounds and the Waikokopu Caf .
